Tucker, Walsh key UAB to third-place in Bay Bracket

NICEVILLE, FLA. — Rayne Tucker and Maddie Walsh scored 23 and 21 points, respectively, helping UAB post a 76-43 victory past Alabama State in the third-place game of the Bay Bracket in the Emerald Coast Classic women’s basketball tournament Tuesday.

Walsh was lethal from beyond the three-point arc, making six three-point baskets to surpass her entire season output of five entering the game. She had missed her previous 10 three-point shots covering a three-game stretch.

Tucker, a graduate transfer from Temple, scored 10 of her points in the first quarter making all four shots to stake UAB to a 19-15 lead. Tucker was held scoreless playing 14 minutes 30 seconds against Clemson Monday. Senior guard Taylor Smith came off the bench to score a game-high 11 points for Alabama State. 

Reserves scored all of Alabama State’s 24 points in the first half. Behind 10 rebounds from Jade Weathersby, UAB outrebounded Alabama State, 45-31.

Graduate forward Cordasia Harris pulled down a team-high 10 rebounds for Alabama State.
UAB 4-2 will play host to Southern Mississippi this Sunday. 

Alabama State, which is 2-4,  travels to No. 18 ranked Ole Miss on Saturday.
