Strong Start Propels Missouri Past Wichita State In Emerald Coast Classic

NICEVILLE, FLA. — Five players scored in double figures as Missouri whipped Wichita State, 85-57, in the third-place game of the Bay Bracket in the Emerald Coast Classic women’s basketball tournament Tuesday night.

The Tigers, who improved their record to 6-3, opened the game shooting a blistering 64.7 percent from the floor (11-17) and never cooled down. 

Missouri shot 50.8 percent for the game, making 33 of 65 shots. Meanwhile, the Tigers defense limited Wichita State to just 32.7 percent shooting (16-49).

Clinging to a 16-12 lead, Missouri went on a 10-1 run to build a 26-13 advantage with Ashton Judd scoring five points.

Judd, a junior guard, netted a season-high 22 points, nailing four three-point baskets. Sophomore guard Grace Slaughter and senior forward Laniah Randle had 12 points apiece. Senior guard Nyah Wilson scored 11 points, while graduate forward Angelique Ngalakulondi collected 10 points off the bench.

Randle enjoyed her second double-double of the season after grabbing a game-high 10 rebounds.

Graduate guard Taylor Jameson, freshman guard KP Parr and junior guard Jasmine Peaks led Wichita State with nine points apiece.Missouri outrebounded Wichita State, 44-30, accounting for 23 second-chance points compared to just nine by the Shockers.

Wichita State (2-5) plays host to Prairie View A&M Monday.
