MORE ACCOLADES FOR SUMMERS: Ole Miss guard Jarvis Summers continues to garner preseason accolades. He is one of 35 players named to the 2015 Bob Cousy Award Watch List which recognizes the top point guard in college basketball.
CBSSports.com also list Summers among the top 100 players in college hoops in 2014-15
He is the SEC’s active career leader in scoring, assists, minutes and wins.
JAQAWN RAYMOND EYES BIG SEASON: Middle Tennessee State Coach Kermit Davis is looking for guard Jaqawn Raymond to continue to make strides this season.
Raymond is the team’s top returning scorer (6.5 avg.) but understands that his best basketball is still ahead.
“As you get older, your role continues to grow. My expectation level is a lot higher for Jaqawn than it was last year,” Davis said.
“Once I first started playing I wasn’t really comfortable in the offense,” Raymond said of his sophomore season. “I didn’t know when to shoot and when not to shoot. Down the year, coach told me if I’m open just shoot it, if I’m not pass the ball and the ball will find me.”
CREIGHTON DECISION TIME? This is the time for coaches to decide on potential players to be redshirted for the upcoming season.
“We still have two weeks to think about that,” said McDermott, who usually delays the final decision regarding redshirting until at least the regular-season opener. “They’re getting their reps in practice and they’re preparing themselves to play.
“If a decision to redshirt would appear to be the best decision, we’ll provide those facts to their families and let them make a decision as they see fit.”
PRESEASON POLL: For the second straight year Cincinnati was selected to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference preseason coaches poll. The Bearcats won a share of the inaugural league’s regular-season crown, while posting a 15-3 league mark in 2013-14. The Bearcats finished the year 27-7 overall, advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth consecutive season.
