The Northwest Florida Daily News wrote about the Emerald Coast Classic recently, saying:
Through the years, Northwest Florida State College has been a factory for Division I basketball talent.
But early next season, The Arena will become a showcase for more than junior college basketball.
In late November, NWF State will play host to the Emerald Coast Classic, the first Division I basketball tournament ever held in Okaloosa County. The eight-team event features Cincinnati, Creighton, Ole Miss and Middle Tennessee State, among others.
“We are ecstatic about hosting the Emerald Coast Classic at Northwest Florida State College,” said Ramsey Ross, director of athletics at Northwest Florida. “The Arena is a fantastic facility that will serve as the perfect venue for the first ever Division I basketball event in our area.
“The entire northwest Florida region thrives on collegiate athletics so the support for the Emerald Coast Classic from our fans and community will be absolutely tremendous.”
